Let's Make Borage Tea

I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND THESE ARE NOT MEDICAL RECCOMENDATIONS, ASK YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE TRYING ANY HERBAL REMEDIES.

There is nothing better when you have any itchy scratchy throat than borage tea

What you need:

  • Borage leaves (1/4 cup)

  • Borage flowers (optional)

  • 2 heat safe cups/mugs/jars

  • fine strainer (cheesecloth is also a good option)

  • hot water

Let's make some borage tea:

1. Pick your borage leaves, for one BIG cup I use 3 large leaves and a small handful of flowers. You do not have to use the flowers if you don't have any blooming or just don't want to for whatever reason, using just the leaves works wonderfully. I like to have about 1/4 cup of borage plant to use.

2. Bring 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water to a boil.

3. Put your borage in a heat safe cup and top with the hot water. I like to give it a good stir and king of smash the leaves up a bit with an upside down utensil. Then let it sit for 15 minutes.

4. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP.

You must strain the tea, here's why:

Borage plants have little pokies on them that will irritate your throat if they are not strained out of the tea. I either use cheesecloth or a very fine tea strainer and I strain it twice just to be extra safe.

5. ENJOY!

Borage has all sorts of health benefits that you can research as you please, I personally have only ever used it to soothe my throat.

Next time you have a cough or sore throat give it a try and let me know how it works for you! It is also a unique plant to grow in your garden, that pollinators absolutely love!

Below is an image of my borage plant, well plants. There is probably around fifteen plants growing together that self seeded from the original one I had.
